We live according to some of our own patterns, sleep, food, work, practice, entertainment...
And sometimes you think, it would be good to add something useful, for example, start meditating in the morning.
What do you need for this, besides the desire for a result?
Time, the ability to direct your attention, the ability to do, at least for some time, without expecting a result.
But all these resources are already distributed in the daily pattern, you can take them only by giving up something.
Moreover, in the usual pattern, in addition to habit, there is also some pleasure.

Let's say, getting stuck in videos on YouTube. You start scrolling and later you realize how much time and attention you spent on it. But did this activity give you anything useful? Did you learn something necessary? It seems to me that most people get stuck not for the benefit of knowledge, but for the pleasure of the process.
And you need to replace this habit, reinforced by pleasure, with something new that does not bring pleasure, but can cause suffering (for a while), for the sake of some greater pleasure in the future. Or maybe not.

And the further we go, the more accessible and attractive such cheap pleasures become.
We care about survival, reproduction and social interaction.
Food is available, "pasta always costs the same" - we don't die of hunger and couriers bring it, you don't even have to leave the house.
Pornography is easily accessible on the Internet, you don't have to pretend to be someone or try to prove yourself to the opposite sex.
Social networks allow you to "be friends" without knowing people. Likes and the number of subscribers increase your status and satisfy self-actualization.

But there is a "but":
Not all food is equally healthy.
Without physical contact between people of different sexes, there will be no children and the sensations are not the same.
A friend from a social network will not help in real life, and if you break the rules of a social network, you can even be banned.

It turns out that we get a kind of surrogate for cheap, but we prefer it because of its availability.
And with generations the rating goes down, before even cinema, compared to books, was considered empty fun, but now cinema is not so bad, compared to shorts.

Sometimes I want to turn it all off, but I think the right way is to outgrow it, lose interest, or rather, find more interest in something necessary.
