Where do we start to understand yoga? We should start with the definition of yoga and method of yoga. These two key elements are the foundations we will build our future studies on. Even if it looks easy from the first glance it is only the top of the iceberg.
There are two main principles for any self-exploration system to be called „yoga”. If this system is not following them then we will not be talking about yoga. By following these two principles we are striving for an essential goal – freedom from all limiting factors. But can we do it by limiting freedom of other living beings?
There is huge potential in each one of us. The only problem is that we are not aware of this. Thereby we can make a lot of problems on our way of self-exploration. It is easy to mistaken other activities with yoga. If you wish to become a true yogi and reach for these heights then this is something you have to know.
Yoga beginners often ask if yoga can be regarded a religion or can it be practiced by people who are of different religions or do not belong to any religion at all. It is important question and we will study in this material. Also we need to find out if yoga is open or closed system. Is entire knowledge freely available for people who want to study it or there are some restrictions?
It was said before that yoga is the system of self-exploration and exploring of the world around us. Science is also dealing with the studies of the human nature and factors influencing people. Are these two systems equal, alike or completely different?
Bits of yoga history. Finding your school of yoga. Costs of yoga studies.
Let’s look back in the history of yoga. What do we know about ancient origins, sources, teachers and texts? How many yoga schools exist and how to find the right one for you? Can anyone teach you yoga and what are the duty of yoga teacher in your yoga learning process?
There is no freedom if you are not contious about freedom of others! Now it is time to focus on few important yoga terms. Even though Open Yoga is trying to avoid new terminology or using Sanskrit, there are few terms that do not have analogue ones in English.
You have done a great job to complete this course. Well done! Now it is turn to fill in and submit the homework.
