Abstract

During pregnancy, significant changes occur in a woman’s body, which also affect the musculoskeletal system. The author proposes the practice of yoga as a method for preventing flat feet, based on modern research in this field.

Introduction

During pregnancy, many women complain of foot pain and the rapid development of flat feet. These issues arise because during pregnancy, connective tissue becomes more elastic, body weight increases, metabolism accelerates, and blood flow in the lower extremities slows down, leading to increased stress on the lower back, knee joints, and feet. Flat feet are a deformation of the feet caused by the arch lowering at the instep. As the ligaments of the feet lengthen, the foot becomes wider and flatter, helping to distribute additional weight while walking. The load on the metatarsal bones of the foot often then becomes uneven, leading to the development of transverse flat feet and deformities of the toes.
